Beaver Dam, Berwick, Southern Maine

Beaver Dam is a nice little family campground.  We camped there a couple of times in 2010 in our Minnie Winnie.

There were about 60 campsites that were not huge in size, but you could choose from water front, treed, or open area sites.

The campground was immaculate, and the bathrooms were well maintained.  A small store was available that offered some of the necessities and some of the things you just wanted like ice cream, and the people that staffed the office and store were very friendly.

The campground offered a medium-sized pool, mining for the kids, a small miniature golf course, game area, open areas for play, and water access for canoes and small row boats.  We loved the boat rental so that was always a must for us.    You could also fish from your water-front site or from the dock.

Dogs were allowed so if you had a dog it was wonderful, but if you didn’t want a barking dog right next to you then that is something to discuss when talking to them about a reservation.

The first camping trip we spent a lot of time swimming in the water near the small beach area, and had a lot of fun.   The second time we were still having a good time at the little beach, until we saw some kids trying to kill some snakes in the water.   Because we weren’t interested in encountering any native wildlife up close and personal, we moved from the beach to the pool.   The pool was not large, but it was very clean; and the grandkids had a good time playing in the water.

There were several seasonal campers, but it was a good mix of friendly people.  If you wanted to walk or ride a bike, there was a nice loop through the campground.  Beaver Dam was a small, quiet place where you could relax and enjoy a small town Maine environment.

The historic town of Portsmouth, NH, is 30 minutes away, and Hampton Beach is only an hour down the road.  And, if you want to head up the coast of Maine, head towards Portland, ME, and enjoy some gorgeous coastal scenery and maybe a little seafood along the way.

Grandchildren’s report on Beaver Dam:

Grandson (6) – Love it. Great.  I wish I could live there.

Granddaughter (11) – I think it is a very nice campground.   I love the boat rentals.
