Where am I? I am at the Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, visiting a family member.

Hospitals have certainly changed from the rather sterile looking institutions of the past. But, regardless of how simple or beautifully they are decorated and landscaped, hospitals are still places you visit and usually feel either happy or anxious.

It is always pure joy to welcome a new member to your family. What is more fun that greeting a new child or grandchild – such hope for life.

On the other hand, it is more challenging to visit a loved one who is seriously ill because it may be the end of life.

Whatever the reason for visiting a hospital, it is comforting to know that the many members of the hospital staff still work hard every day to help mothers adjust to their new babies, patients regain their strength from a serious illness or recover from surgery, and most important of all hopefully discharge them to return home to their families.

For that, I say a sincere thank you to each and every one of them.

Before reading the article I said it was a picture of a hospital. It certainly is beautiful. Hope you don’t have to visit it too many times.

It looks more like a Hotel!!! But it certainly is better than those clinical buildings of old

I would have never guessed hospital. The ones I’ve had contact with recently aren’t nearly this welcoming!

Our newest hospital in Merced has gone all upscale too. Beautiful art, gardens, and patios. Doesn’t make it any easier if you have to spend time as a patient there though, since all of the beauty is only in places that visitors will see.

I do think the beauty of these new hospitals helps to make people who have to visit a bit more comfortable. I sure hope your family member recovers quickly and you don’t have to go back anytime soon.
