Weekly Photo Challenge: Surprise

Our good camping friends from the North Country came for a visit yesterday. We had a great lunch at the Portsmouth Brewery and a wonderful afternoon of catching up on family activities.

They brought us a surprise basket. Packed inside was: chocolate fudge, bread and butter pickets, relish, peach jam, apple jelly, strawberry jam, applesauce, honey and maple syrup.

She made all the jams, jellies, applesauce, pickles and relish. They bought the beautiful jar of honey from friends, and he made the absolutely delicious fudge.

The  maple syrup came from sap collected from their miles of lines, and boiled in their sugar shack right on their property.

Maple Syrup

If you’ve never had New Hampshire Maple Syrup on your pancakes and waffles, you haven’t had ‘real’ maple syrup.

I know some people like their surprises and gifts delivered from an online company or bought at the mall. But, I’ll take mine from friends who bring them from their home to ours and seal each jar with love and friendship.

Isn’t that what the true spirit of Christmas is all about? Family, friendship, caring and sharing.

May someone in your life bless you with a surprise gift made by hand and sent with sincere good wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season.

Yesterday is what the holidays are all about. It was one of the best days in a long time. We enjoyed every minute of it, seeing our dear friends, our nephew and his girl friend and just enjoying each other’s company. Also giving the things we make means a lot more to us in sharing what we like to do.

  2. You certainly know what the spirit of Christmas really is.

I love homemade gifts – gifts from the heart! One of the gifts I am MOST looking forward to is the 5 kinds of fudge Jenna made yesterday! Just don’t know why I should have to wait….

What I wouldn’t give for a gift basket like that! It would be a perfect match for the holiday bread and stollens I’ll be baking today.
