Melon plants growing vertically at the UNH Greenhouse. Each plant as well as each melon was tied to the rafters. We grow tomatoes like this but never thought of melons. 🙂
Sling for fruit.
I grow cucumbers vertically, but never thought about trying to grow my watermelons this wya. i would need a block and tackle to support some of them! :>
So true, but it sure makes your imagination go wild.
My melons grown on the ground atop a landscape fabric to control the weeds. Horizontal space is not a concern for me as i am blessed to care for over three acres around my home.
I may need your advice because I’ve tried unsuccessfully to grow melons. Is there a type that you have good luck with?
I live in Virginia. We favor the Crimson Sweet due to the seedless nature. For me a good watermelon can be hampered by the annoyance of dealing with mouthfuls of seeds.
I saw pumpkins growing like this in France – full-sized, not the minis! Always wanted to try it 🙂
What a great idea! Like everyone else I’ve seen tomatoes like that but never melons (or pumpkins!).
