These doors are from our Amsterdam visit and are the entrance to several apartments.
In Amsterdam, the majority of the residents rent versus own since they pay an average of 60% tax and 21% sales tax.
According to those we talked to, it is hard to save for a home which is very expensive, but there are also benefits of a socialist government like free health care and school tuition.
It is always interesting to visit other countries and think about different forms of government. Keeps the conversation going for sure. 🙂

Nice one. I hope you came back with lots of doors to share 🙂

Oh, Norm, you cannot imagine how many times I thought of you as I was tripping over myself taking photos of doors. I even got another traveler from CA to start taking pictures of doors if he saw one when I wasn’t there. 🙂

I love your Thursday doors…I start wondering immediately about people and lifes behind those doors. This one, with all the mailboxes and double doors is very special. It looks so French for some reason…xo Johanna

Perfectly geometric and very convenient to have a mail slot right at the outside entrance – both for the mailman and the resident. Looks like a nice place to live!

What a great set of doors! So different from anything you would see in this country — at least the few places I’ve been. I’m so glad you took this trip so I can enjoy so much more of the world. I love being a second hand tourist!

Interesting doors with the myriad mail boxes and tree in the prior post! 🙂

I would probably be willing to rent in exchange for the health care, education, and other benefits.

It certainly is thought provoking to think about a different way of life isn’t it? It was also interesting to see the number of window boxes, climbing vines, vertical plants and containers of plants scattered around the various apartment buildings.

Welcome home, Judy! Tonight I’m catching up with your travels. I just love to take pictures of windows when I travel. This is a great image and holds so many stories of the people living there. I have fond memories of Amsterdam from long ago! ♡

I’d go back to Amsterdam in a flash. 🙂 I have doors and you have windows – now all we need are a few roofs and we’d have the house covered. 🙂
