In 99.9% of my entries on Thursday Doors, I only wish I knew who lived behind the doors I photograph.
But this week is different because I know who lives in this house – our wonderful friends. These two special people are the kind you dream about living next door to because of their intelligence, kindness, integrity, and community involvement.
It was built in the 1890’s and is located in the historic district of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. For over 30 years, they have lived in this beautiful home where they raised three sons.
We treasure our relationship with this couple and always look forward to spirited conversations about a wide variety of topics including gardening for me and golfing for my husband.
She has a smaller garden than I do, but can boast being on the Portsmouth Pocket Garden Tour not once but twice. It is a lovely, manicured area with beautiful garden art. He and my husband are golfing partners and always have a story to tell.
It’s fun knowing who lives behind the door this week and sharing just a little bit about them, but the most wonderful thing is that I’m fortunate enough to call them ‘friends.’ 🙂

Charming house. I like the way you caught the reflected house in the first picture. Nothing like good friends.

I love the house – New England style is my fave – which is why we built ours in that classic look. I agree with Debra – I’d love to see this lovely lady’s lovely garden! Love, love, LOVE to see it!
And I’m happy for you that you’ve found a friend with a husband to keep your own entertained! That doesn’t always happen and then the friendship fades away!

Fabulous home! I love the porch and the multiple roof lines. And the door, too, of course.
There’s great fortune in next-door friends!

I’m with Deb and Joyce. Definitely would love to see photos of neighbor’s garden when in bloom. I’m so “not with it” that I’ve never heard the term “Pocket Garden”!
Beautiful home and entryway. I, too, like reflection of house in door.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!!

You definitely deserve a Happy St. Patrick’s Day! A Pocket Garden is a tiny garden. Her backyard garden can fit in one of my beds. But, it is manicured and exquisite. She also has several pieces of local artwork that adds to the beauty. Have a great day. 🙂

Wished most of my friends do not live in neighborhoods like you photographed. Also, tend to visit them at night (lol). Even the church doors here look very business like – very straight unadorned glass doors:) So I’m having a good time looking at these cute houses!

Judy, no excuses, just stopping by to tell you I enjoyed this Thursday’s Doors presentation! I loved the colonial red color and contrasted with the bright cerulean sky, awesome sight! I like when you have a house you are friends with the owners, can share insight into what happened inside this home for years. They sound like the best friends ever! Smiles, Robin
