How about a house number from Bruges, Belgium – 1815.
When you walk down the street as a resident or visitor in Bruges, you are surrounded by the beautiful architecture of the past. However, when you move through some of the doors, or in this instance a gate, you find an ultra modern building sitting behind the facade.
I was in awe of the architecture and equally amazed that people were living and working in contemporary buildings just a few feet behind a propped up historical exterior.
Traveling – it is always a learning experience. 🙂

Well, no excuses here about delivery to the wrong house!
Lots of interesting finds when modern life chooses to exist respectfully and peacefully alongside the old. Like, for example, the New England homes you showed us last winter that have the attached barns. People just adapt and go on living – and they must wonder what it is the rest of us are gawking at!

Travelling is so full of experiences…and we have just returned from some travelling in Italy…but I don’t think I’ve ever seen numbers that big on a gate!

Love this Judy! Must be a challenge to express oneself amidst the architectural statements of the past that have spoken so well.

I would certainly have been surprised to walk through doors such as these and others that you have shown and found Modern inside! 🙂

I know I probably had my mouth open the first one we saw. Beautiful historical exterior and then a modern apartment building behind .

That’s a stunner, Judy. I could almost imagine you posting it on Thursday, with a dispensation for not being quite a door. 🙂

Is it the house number? Or its date of construction?

That’s the question I’ve had since I took the photo. It is a handsome gate, date or address. 🙂

Absolutely. I’m not sure there are any streets in Bruges long enough to have 1815 houses in it!

That is very cool! So different from anything we would ever see in southern California.
