As you read this, we’re headed north from South Carolina to New England.
It has been a blast, but as they say all good things come to an end.
We’ll miss…
- Palm trees
- Long walks on the beach
- Beautiful sunrises and sunsets of pinks and blue
- Shrimp and grits, crab nachos, BBQ and all the other great foods we enjoyed
- Pelicans and Egrets
- Live oaks dripping with moss
- Most of all, we’ll miss living right on this beach and the sight and sound of the ocean
But, traveling this far wouldn’t be quite as nice without the wonderful community of people here.
One of those special people is 90 years old although you’d never know it. I’m not sure the average 60 year old could keep up with her. She keeps herself both physically and mentally fit, plays bocce ball three days a week, walks the trails at Brookgreen Gardens, and has a wicked sense of humor. She also quilts, and she loves to bake cookies. If you are gifted with some of her delicious cookies, you know you are having a special day.
It has been a wonderful winter break. Walking on the treadmill next week is going to be mentally painful. 🙂
I’ve ordered several quilt patterns so will be happy to get back to the sewing machine while I wait for the ground to thaw. The closest fabric store to Murrells Inlets was 70 miles away in Florence. Can you believe it? I made it eight whole weeks without visiting a fabric store. Maybe I’ll treat myself to another one of those special cookies.
If we encounter good weather, we have a couple of stops on the way. If not, we’ll be focused on traveling in a straight line home.
Have a great week, friends. I’ll let you know how much of that snow has melted. 🙂
Safe travels! I look forward seeing your beautiful home agin…xo Johanna

I hope you have good weather and a safe trip. Our current forecast includes a bunch of rain, but maybe you can drive between the drops. Most of our snow is gone, You might even see patches of green.

Hope the weather is kind to you so you can make those last few stops. “Our” vacation seems to have flown by. It’s been a blast traveling with you. You could have a second career as a tour guide!!
Thanks for all the beautiful photos, history lessons and fun stories. Wishing you both a safe trip home….and no snow when you get there. Can’t wait to see those finished quilts!

I met the nicest lady from way up in Northern Maine. But, then, all you Mainers are nice. 🙂

I hope your safe trip home results in a few good stops with equally interesting things to see. I have really enjoyed the glimpse of SC you gave us over the past 2 months – the beauty, the history – you made us feel as if we were right there with you – (I wish!)

I think that one of the nice things about travel is having a wonderful home to return to even while missing the joys of the place/s you visited. Safe travels and thanks for sharing some of your warm weather and wonderful times with us.

Yesterday I walked a couple of miles on the boardwalk next to the ocean. Today I sat on my duff in the car for about 8 hours and next week it will be a treadmill. Just not the same. 🙂

Your border will be busy around the first week of April when all the Canadians in South Carolina and Florida head back north. 🙂

I hope you have a comfortable journey home Judy. That beach looks divine. I am sure leaving it behind must have been quite a wrench!

There’s no place like home, even if there are no palm trees and pelicans. The 90-year-old sounds wonderful. I’d love to taste her home-baked cookies. 🙂 Safe travelling, Judy.

She bakes a wicked good chocolate chip cookie. I don’t know what her secret is, but it was great. She is a real jewel, and I feel privileged to have spent some time with here. 🙂

A safe travel at home, Judy. As you wrote All good things come to an end. It’s pity! 🙂
I liked your sea pictures, shores, birds. You had a rest without visiting fabric store, and I hope to see your new quilt.

What a wonderful time you’ve had! And it’s been nice living vicariously through your posts. Are you looking forward to being home, at least a little? I don’t think you’ll find much snow at all–ours is gone. Safe travels!

There is no place like home including family, friends, ‘my’ bed, favorite chair, and sewing machine. 🙂

This must have been the most crowded winter break ever, what with all of us looking over your shoulder all the time! But it was lovely, and it really didn’t come to a total end because there are these so-real photos and your personal touches. Thanks so much! And safe journey.

Eight weeks without a visit to a fabric shop–did you at least visit one on the web?

🙂 Yes, and I ordered patterns to be sent home so I would have lots of projects to look forward to once I got back. 🙂

You should be coming home to some nice weather. I’m curious as to whether you missed your winter quilting projects while you were down there?

Several of the ladies had their sewing machines with them and were working on projects. I did miss mine except that because of space it would have to take it out, set it up, then break it down. Most who take the machines rent units with extra bedrooms and they use one room for just sewing/crafting and maybe one to keep their ironing board up and stock supplies. I did a couple of counted cross stitch projects that kept my hands busy, and I only needed a craft bag. 🙂
