Glass is the material of which beach home doors are made of so the views can be enjoyed.
The glass doors may not be extremely interesting, but the buildings and their colors are certainly colorful.
Wonder what my building looks like? Fifteen floors of 15 units per floor – all glass doors.
I’ll try to capture some more colorful doors for next week, but I’ve been busy taking a card making class, out and about, or at my sewing machine. Β I had some delicious key lime pie in a jar yesterday while enjoying lunch with friends. It was consumed before I realized I hadn’t grabbed a shot. But, if you stop at Longhorn Steak House, I’d highly recommend it along with the shrimp and lobster chowder. Good eats.
We are set to have four days of really nice weather, so the golfers and the walkers will be happy. Then those two storms that seem to be affecting at least half of the country will send our temps plummeting. I won’t complain about the cold because we won’t have to shovel anything, but I will be monitoring my propane tank at home on-line.
Happy Thursday! What’s going on in your part of our world?

I bet you have an incredible view!! Wondering what you think of the card making class? I got involved with that at the local library, and was grateful to the teacher for sharing her “equipment”, embossing folders, stamps etc. Over the last 3 years I have accumulated enough “stuff” to fill one of those multi drawer craft carts. And guess who never finished her Christmas cards….yup….I’ve learned that I can’t diversify too much from my hobbies. Enjoy what warmth you have! Tired of winter already in the Mid-Atlantic.

I enjoy making cards and chatting, but not enough to purchase all the equipment needed to really do it full time for all cards. I sat next to a lady, who had a huge bag of tools some of which looked like she could start a dental practice. π

Goodness! I never pictured your building to look like that. Very modern. Sounds as though you are busy as usual. Enjoy!

It’s a good sized building, and this time of year it is populated by a wonderful senior crowd from all the US including your beautiful state of Maine. π

Your building looks a bit like an optical illusion from that angle. It does look like you have a great view. It’s pretty neat that you can monitor the propane from the relative comfort of the beach. Sometimes, technology works.
Sunday and Monday are supposed to be bitter cold here. I’m sure we’ll have a fire going in the wood stove.

The monitoring is pretty cool, except it’s not quite accurate. So…when I see we are close to the 30 gallon mark, I email to make sure we’re on the delivery list. Much, much better than nothing, but it would be terrific if it was really accurate. Yes, keep that stove going next week. If you can imagine, this part of the country is not really equipped for the cold so there is no weather stripping on the doors. It gets kind of drafty when the wind blows. It always makes us chuckle after how much effort New Englanders put into keeping their houses tight. π

I wonder where the line is for working to keep it tight and not worrying about it?

Okay, I must confess this to you because I know it will allow you a good laugh. So, the first year we were here, and the cold wind kicks up, I ask the group at afternoon coffee how they deal with that. Several of the women just crank the heat up to a point you can’t breath, but a wonderful Canadian gentleman says to take a butter knife and push plastic bags into the door jamb then pull them out in the morning. So, I make sure I always have a half a dozen bags for weather stripping. Works like a charm. π

I’m with Laurie! I expected your building to be smaller and more traditional! Still, you can’t beat the location, water view, temps, and lack of snow – all adding up to a carefree winter experience!
Very little snow here altho periods of cold temps. Last two days found icy roads that closed schools. I was scared to go to my mail box! Snow predicted for this weekend so hubby and I are going out for groceries and cat food today – the way stodgy old retired people do!
Would love to see your card creations! One daughter’s MIL makes them and has a virtual warehouse of gizmos for embossing, trimming, and stamping. Between the two of us (me with my quilt fabric and pattern stash) the kids can open a craft store to rival Michael’s after we die! (Unless I take my supplies with me – which I fully plan to do! :))

I will take some shots of the cards and share. Yes, don’t fall on the ice and always have enough food for all the members of the family. π Now, if you take your quilt fabric and patterns with you, I’ll grab my sewing machine, rotary cutter and other equipment. We’ll create quilts while basking in the clouds. π

Gee, too bad you and Dennis have no neighbors nearby!! Lol. Prime view is certainly an attraction of your building. Can’t wait to see some shots of dolphins. But I don’t know when you get to enjoy that view because you stay so busy and are usually running around with “the girls”!
Enjoy this winter getaway. Most of us will soon be wishing we “got away” too!! ππ

We’ve been here for almost three weeks, and I got to see the dolphins once this week. They go up and down twice a day, but you have to be staring out there in order to catch the dorsal fin rising and falling. I keep looking and keep trying though. π

Key lime pie in a jar??? And you didn’t get a picture? Shouldn’t you FORCE yourself to go back and order another so you can grab a photo before you grab a fork? As to the glass doors, they’d be wonderful. It isn’t often in life we get such a view through a door!

That’s quite a complex you’re staying in. I love the shot of that top row of houses. They remind me of a lot of the colorful houses I’ve seen in Louisiana.
You will have to go back for more key lime pie in a jar. While you’re there have a bowl of chowder for me will ya?

That is quite the modern digs you’re staying in! Lots of glass to wash. π But I expect the views are worth it. I saw in your comments about the lack of weather proofing down south. I noticed that in FL recently as well. The utilities seem to run constantly. Even though it gets cold (or hot) at times, they don’t seem to do anything to conserve energy. My spouse thinks it is because fuel is relatively cheap, so they don’t have the incentive. Maybe…but it doesn’t seem kind to the planet.

Florida too?. It would probably boggle our minds if we knew how many states don’t weather proof residences thereby wasting all that energy. We could sure make a difference if we could somehow convince all those people that saving energy by weatherproofing is a positive thing for the planet.

Now you’ve hit another huge topic. Here we are in this big building with all these folks who recycle at home, but there is zero recycling here. Every plastic and paper product I put down that trash chute kills me.

New England houses are all about the same colors – all pale. Here, things are like a crayon box of colors. Even if you don’t want a pink house at home, it certainly makes you smile to see one down here. π

I forget that sometimes it’s the uniformity of doors that make them worthy of note. I’m drooling over the idea of key lime pie anything, so in answer to your question I’ll say that nothing key lime is going on here.

Love the photo of the row of colorful houses. It sounds like you are definitely making the most of your holiday. π In regards to the lack of weather proofing down south, I think it all depends on the age of buildings and the workmanship of whoever built them. We don’t often need heat in our area of Florida but we definitely need to keep our home cool in the summer, so our three year old house was built to the highest standards regarding energy efficiency, it is a shame when they are not. I can’t imagine what our electric bills would be if it wasn’t.

You and your hubby would definitely know all about weather proofing, and why others don’t realize the energy savings attached to it I don’t understand. I’m glad we’re both missing that storm hitting NH tonight. π

Love the beach houses, all colorful in a row. So pretty. Almost as pretty as key lime pie is tasty!
I once stayed with my godmother over Thanksgiving at her condo on Daytona Beach. Glass wrap around, very pretty every minute, even when it stormed, maybe more when it stormed. And since she was so high up, we could sleep with the doors all open and the sound of the surf and no mosquitoes. Ooh la la. Dreamy.
It’s cold and snowy here — enjoy! π
