I woke up, made some Peets coffee, and watched the local news and weather while scrolling on the net.
After seeing who killed who, how many arson fires were set, the number of politicians in the state looking for votes already, who took advantage of who, how our national security is playing out on Twitter, what certain families are wearing and saying, fake news, and how many minutes until the weather changes, I feel like I either need to go back to bed or take an antidepressant.
Since I’m not going to do either of those because then I would have wasted two perfectly good cups of coffee, I think I’ll head outside and commune with the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees – it’s mentally safer out there.
But, if I was in charge of news and weather, this is what I’d post.
If you were the News and Weather Director, what positive things would you post?
Have a great Monday, and remember, you’ll never be younger than you are today so go out there and do something that scares you. π
What a fabulous summary of the start of the day!!! Magnificent… as you said Judy, whyβve waste a couple of cups of coffee! Head outside yo the βreslβ World!!! πππ

This is day three without rain in the forecast (OK, there a chance of showers tonight, but hey…). That would be my lead story. I think I’d follow it with a collection of photos and videos of birds singing, squirrels eating and leaves and blossoms blowing gently in the wind. And ducks! I saw ducks this morning. I don’t know, maybe they were geese, but who cares. I was able to get out of my car and get a picture without getting wet!
New England needs the Judy Channel !!!

You’re having a great start to the day, friend, and I know you stopped and got a DD coffee on the way. π Doesn’t every day carry a chance of rain? LOL That’s what is so ridiculous about the weather forecast. It takes them 10-12 minutes to tell us that if we look out the window we can see the sun is shining right now, but at some time in the future it could rain. We needed experienced meteorologists to tell us that? π If I get my own channel, you can be in charge of wildlife and cute family pets. π

Deal – We can make it a D-I-Y network. You handle the gardening and sewing. I’ll handle woodworking and, apparently dog-deck building π

I enjoyed my coffee outside watching the sun rise and the birds in the garden… as usual on dry mornings this time of year. Itβs for all the reasons you list that I no longer have tv. π

We certainly do have to control what we take in or it can negatively affect how we live our lives. You may be smarter than all of us by choosing no tv at all. I raise my cup of coffee to you!

When I hear the morning news I think there MUST be one positive story out there…please! … so how about starting the Judy channel, gardening, sunshine and some humour!

You said what we all think – isn’t there at least one positive story out there you can leave us with, please, instead of every single negative story from around the entire world that may or may not apply to us. I could handle gardening, sunshine, and some humor. π

Best morning news and forecast EVER!!
My forecast would be, “When it’s dark enough, you can see the stars” — Ralph Waldo Emerson.
I would sum up all the other garbage news by simply asking, ” Why is it we only rest in peace? Why can’t we manage to live in peace?”
Then I would quit my newscasting/forecasting job, move up near you, and we could tiptoe through the tulips with the butterflies and birds and (non-stinging) bees! And eat chocolate…LOTS of chocolate! Lol.

Yes, use our common sense and live in peace with everyone – that’s a plan, Ginger. π Now, come on up, and I’ll get a goodly amount of chocolate ready, and if we run out we’ll buy more. And, yes, non-stinging bees which I’ve certainly been looking out for. π

I told the hubby weeks ago that I will not watch the news anymore. I grab a headline or two when I log into yahoo; check the forecast and carry on. My motto is “go have fun !” Not sure about the scared part, but I like trying new things. I’ve ridden a total of 50.4 miles this month on my bike, sat out at the park for free concerts, sewn miles of binding on placemats. Who has time for all that negativity? Not me. Loved this post!!

We are down to the local news in the morning and what we run across on the web, and that is getting to be too much. I applaud your bike riding both for the fun adventures it provides and for the great exercise. I did my thing that I’ve been putting off and that was joining my local quilt guild. I kept hoping I could find another person to join with, but never have, so just mailed in my application. I’ll make a new friend there. π

I like your news much better. Here’s a bit of good news for you: Clif and I sat on the patio last night and didn’t get carried away by the mosquitoes. A fluke? Who knows? But it was bliss—our moment of Zen.

It is like a fire hose of negativity from all across the world just washing over you. I remember when we use to watch the evening news, but we haven’t done that in years. Every day is a gift, and I’d like to enjoy it fully. No TV in the morning sounds like a plan to me. π

I would definitely put you in charge of the news. So much negativity and so little we can do about it. I don’t want to bury my head in the sand but I do want to maintain a positive outlook and my sense of humor. I have always liked that quote about holding on to anger… it’s so true.
LikeLiked by 1 person
You summarize the situation perfectly in that we do need to be informed about what applies to us, but also need to maintain a good outlook and sense of humor in order to enjoy our lives. There is so much that they flood us with that does not apply to us nor can we do anything about it, that it becomes overwhelming and that’s when we each have to take control of how much we are willing to absorb. Here’s to a glorious week outside enjoying life. π

Hah! I like your thoughts here. I kinda am the news and weather person over here, but it’s mom stuff. I’m the pep talker, eh?
I do not watch news in the morning. I am often informed of the news when I arrive to work. Where I take frequent breaks to be outside with the birdies and squirrels and kitties and bunnies, ferreal. See how productive the ants are? It’s cause they don’t have CNN. π

Yes, I much prefer your version of the daily news! We tend not to watch too much any more because it’s all so irritating and/or sad. I like your cartoon of the fabric shopper. It reminds me of the story I once heard about a quilter who went to a workshop and forgot an essential tool. She was reluctant to phone her husband to ask him to go into her sewing room and find it and bring it to her, because she didn’t want him to see her fabric stash. But she needed the tool so she did call him. When he came with the delivery, he said to her “You have so much fabric. It must be at least $100 worth.” She just agreed with him and left it at that! Some things are better left unknown. π

I love the story about the fabric. Yes, I would have agreed with $100 too, and I’m not even a person who keeps a large stash in comparison to most quilters. Too funny. π

I love this! I think my “good feelings” news item would be awakening awareness by the youngest among us of how much our planet needs protection. Plastic straws need to go, oceans need cleaning, bees need nurturing, recycling needs to picked up, home veggie patches need to increase…..these causes seem to be readily embraced by the school children in my life and I am very grateful for it!

I am encouraged that your grands are involved in trying to protect Mother Earth. It reminds me of the saying – there is no ‘Planet B.’ π The straws to me should be such an easy thing because let’s face it, it’s habit. We can all drink out of a glass/container without a straw. I’m really concerned that a lot of people don’t realize that without pollinators, the vast majority of our food supply will cease to exist. I think they assume grocery stores provide their food rather than the farmer who depends upon the pollinators for a crop. So, I applaud your grands and shout ‘right on.’ π

I used to be a news junkie, but these days I skim stories of interest unless they impact my job directly. I try not to fret about stories I’m unable to do anything about. It’s become my survival strategy.

I’d have Garry stand up out there and tell me what’s going on. That’s how I used to get all the news and weather. If Garry told me on TV, it must be true. These days, I look out the window. Whatever it’s doing, that’s the weather. I open my email. Read the headlines from the various news organizations. I don’t want the rest of the story. I delete each item after the headline. Since every organization reruns the same story many time every day, each time I read the headline, I get another view of the story. By day’s end, I;ve read it all. Clever, eh?

Garry’s days were when they actually reported news. Now, as you say, it’s a 24/7 recycling situation. π
