Yesterday, I made a stop at Rolling Green Nursery in Greenland, NH. It is a first-class nursery with an amazing assortment of plants, great customer service, and I got door lucky.
I must admit the huge bicycle caught my eye first and then the bright pink petunias. But in the background, there was a seasoned potting shed. Garden art, flowers, and a weathered door – now, that’s a good day for me.
Happy Thursday and stay cool if you’re in line for this heatwave. We’ve got temps in the 90’s this weekend with a real feel of well over 100Β°F. That sounds like a good time to get back to the sewing machine or grab a good book. π
By the way, the wild kingdom score is Animals 2: Judy 0. The deer polished off my entire stock tank of lettuce, and the groundhog is still prancing around and snacking like he owns the place, which I guess he does.

Win-win except for the animals vs Judy score. No AC here yet but once we get through Saturday, it should be quite nice again.

Glad you’re having more comfortable weather. π

The morning’s thunderstorms kept the temperature down. Now that they’re over, I expect it will heat up fairly rapidly and then tomorrow is supposed to be near 100 with a heat index quite a lot higher than that.

Even “seasoned”, that potting shed is a winner! Those vividly pink petunias and the bike being used as garden art are truly an eye catcher, as I’m sure they’re meant to be.
Sorry about your uninvited dinner guests. They can certainly create big problems for gardeners like yourself who put so much time and effort, not to mention money, into planting and maintaining both flower and vegetable gardens. It’s like painting a beautiful mural on the side of your barn only to find someone sprayed graffiti all over it. π‘

I could have taken that shed, bike, and flowers right home with me, but for sure I couldn’t afford it. π These guys are proving to be quite the adversaries. π

Love the bike in the petunias! Oh dear…those animals are winning. God gave you dominion over the animals…do what you must! My sister in law Carolyn, (OneBlockWonderWoman.wordpress.com) used to live in the canyons of So. California and the deer loved loved loved her roses. She found a “motion activated” high powered rainbird type sprinkler that would give the deer a strong blast of water and chase them ff. Seemed to work for her. We have a groundhog that has eaten its way around our back yard. It’s huge…I wouldn’t want to mess with it. The possums that hang out in our woods are supposed to eat ticks I have heard…FAIL…..they like cat food better! Try & stay cool.

I’m not a fan of rodents of any size, but I’d sure like to adios this guy before he costs me any more money. Now if he really did eat ticks and could pull a few weeds, I’d might feel differently. π

Beautiful photos, Judy. I love bikes and weathered doors. Sorry to hear about the deer and the groundhog. Stay cool (and hydrated) this weekend.

If you’re having the same weather this weekend, you and Maddie will be walking or sitting real early. π

We haven’t been walking. We’ve been sitting at 6:30 am! She dragged me out last night around 6:00 pm but was panting by the time we got to her deck and didn’t even try to get me to sit.

Beautiful door. Very rustic. Beautiful flowers around the bike. Very arty. What a weekend we have in store for us, eh?

It’s going to be a doozy. The folks at the lake, beach, or mountains will love it. π

Lovely pix. Sorry about your losing battle with the creatures. I empathize. My upcoming book has 2 chapters on co-existing with wild animals. I’t s a tragi-comedy. Unfortunately, some beta readers nearly died laughing at the first chapter on this topic. I honestly didn’t know it was that funny, as I tended to recall more of the tragic elements!

What gardeners’ plagues those animals are! I send sympathy on your losses. Maybe you can find a pattern for a groundhog scarf to go with my rabbit earmuffs. What a good summer it has been for these critters. Your photos today are inspiring; it’s such fun to see what great ideas there are among gardeners! Yes, hideous weather here too — indoor days for sure.

Thank you for the laugh because if we combined the deer, groundhog, and rabbit, we’d certainly have some accessory options. π

Lovely shed Judy. Sorry to hear about your ongoing critter problem π¦
Stay cool this weekend, it’s gonna be a scorcher up here too.

(Wo)man vs. nature… they win most of the time, I’m afraid. π¦ Have you tried cantaloupe in your Hav-a-hart? I hear they can’t resist it. Conversely, I’ve read that ammonia soaked rags around their holes makes them go elsewhere. (You’d have to soak the rags every day until they go, which wouldn’t take more than a week.) A client of mine has an issue with them living under her deck and it has worked. Good luck!
Stay cool the next few days. Good time to take in a movie or go to a museum.

I had read about the cantaloupe so that’s what I have in the trap. I can’t really find the hole. which is one issue. Yes, you stay cool too. π

Thanks for the early morning laugh… although groundhogs sound as if they are no laughing matter! Lovely garden with such pretty flowers, and such greenery all around. Hope you can enjoy a good book & keep cool while I do the same & try to keep warm!

Oooooh noooooo on the animals! – although I do have to chuckle at the way you describe your war on them!
I LOVE the bicycle! that’s a real classy yard ornament that would look nice with any style of house.
So, the heat. We just returned from a week on Lake Michigan, enjoying the sun made tolerable by cool breezes. Today’s return hit us square in the face with high humidity and intolerable heat. So, I’m joining you with a good book and some hand quilting!

You hit the trifecta of garden embellishments! We plan to stay inside this weekend, in the one room with air conditioning. I really hate hot, humid weather . . .

Judy, I don’t even try with lettuce anymore. The rabbits have homesteaded. The temp in Florida is actually cooler than up North right now. Looks like we are going to have two good days then back to the oven.

Seems king of strange and even scary when it is hotter up here than where you are. We’ve got a weekend of excessively hot temperatures with 7 hours today above 100. π

Sorry about the human v beast score.
Not to brag, *totally brags* but it looks like our temps are dropping and the melting will be temporarily postponed.
Have a great weekend!

I’m reliving our groundhog misadventures through you now. Our groundhog used to mock us by sunbathing on the pool deck until she heard the back door open. If she saw it was me, she’d just lay back down but if it was Gilles, she’d run back to her hole.
Gilles tried everything he read about including the ammonia rags. In the end, relocating her and the babies was the only thing that worked. Btw, he used broccoli.
