How about a Halloweeny door this Thursday?
My friend, Sue, spotted this door in Chester, NH, while she was looking for scarecrow people. Doesn’t everyone go looking for scarecrow people this time of year? π
Chester is 26 square miles and has a population of a little over 5,000. So, it is pretty amazing that in their 11th year of “Village People” the residents created close to 1,100 scarecrows.
Each individual or family pays $25 to buy a scarecrow base to decorate, and the proceeds go to the Chester Historical Society.
This year, they also took in consideration the pandemic, and the scarecrows can be visited at a social distance or even from your vehicle. Win win. π

Thank you! What a great way to start my day! Imagination is our great redeeming virtue, I think, and especially when it is shared to lighten hearts in hard times. You are exactly right about the win-win.

It looked almost like a face, and I too applauded them for their imagination and the fact that a small town comes together to put a display on that large. ππ»

Fabulous door, decorated or not! I applaud the residents of Chester, NH for their refreshing imagination, but mostly for their willingness to work together towards a common goal. Plus the whole town and surrounding residents and all of us get to enjoy the fruits of their labor. Thank you to your friend Sue for bringing this to your attention. I thought it looked like a face too!
If Chester can get their act together, why can’t the rest of us?

This is what you need in your town, and you’d be the Queen decorator with many qualified assistants. π

It’s nice to see some things are still happening, with covid taken into account to keep everyone safe. Scarecrows are fun!

That’s a wonderful door. I love the twin lanterns. A scarecrow parade (of sorts) – that’s a cool idea for a fundraiser.

These photos certainly brought back lots of memories. We had friends in Chester and have driven by the green house with the decorated door many times. The town and the residents have always done one of the best jobs with Halloween decorations. π
