They say winter officially starts today. I say it started last week when 18″ inches of snow fell here, and about an hour and a half north, our friends cleared between 32-40″ of the white stuff. Ski lodges are happy, where they are reporting it is like skiing in Utah.
As challenging as clearing a driveway and vehicles in a major storm is, it also brings space savers in Boston to the news. Not familiar with that term, check this link. In a nutshell, if you clear the spot where your car is parked on the street, you can mark and claim that spot for 48 hours. Yes, just like you imagine, all kinds of crazy stuff happens as a result. π
I will leave you with a few winter scenes from around here, and wish each and every one of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year. ππ π»
Good morning Judy, as usual your blog starts my day off with a chuckle, happy to see you enjoying your surroundings. Merry Christmas to you and Dennis

We will always marvel at how something so ethereally beautiful can be so hard on us! Whether trying to shovel it or drive in it, we lose and it wins. But looking at it — well, there’s peace and wonder aplenty. The photo of your welcome wreath is particularly lovely, but nothing can beat the hope in that 2021. Thank you! A very merry Christmas, Judy, and every good thing to you and your family in 2021!

Last week was light and fluffy but yesterday’s has more moisture so it stuck in the trees and shrubs. Beautiful winter shots out there right now. Yes, let’s get in line so we can move on with some sort of normalcy. Merry Christmas!

Judy, Thanks for taking me to your wonder wonderland with your photos this morning. Itβs so beautiful but Iβm happy I live in the south where snow is a rare thing. I love your welcome wreath! Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy, Happy New Year!

Glad to share, but if I’m being honest, I’d have to say I wish I was packing to head your direction for the next three months. π Get ready for more snow photos. Best wishes to you and yours.

Happy Winter Solstice and Merry Christmas, Judy!
I really like the last image with the outgoing and incoming year. Some people are so clever in their ability to put together a powerful image that easily tells a story.
We were spared the storm you got and we still have no snow. I prefer it that way, although I suspect many others donβt feel the same way.
My very best wishes to you and your family for better days ahead. We all have so much hope for 2021!

I was going to travel over and leave you a holiday message. You are missed, but we all get it. π A friend posted that image on FB, and I ‘borrowed’ it because it is perfect for the coming year. I hope your renovation is going well and that you get to spend part of your holidays with the handsome men in your life either in person or through technology. Merry Christmas!

Thank you π I miss all of you as well … but blogging just doesnβt feel like the right place for me right now. My heart is very heavy and this isnβt the right mood to carry online.
Our bathroom reno is now finished and we are delighted with it. My husband really wanted a heated floor and I have to admit it is really nice on a cold winterβs night … or getting out of the shower π
We have been in lockdown for the past 4 weeks and itβs just been extended. We will however be sharing Christmas with our sons – in spite of the lockdown and risk of fines.
Weβve weighed the risks and decided to go for it. Iβm sure that larger families, especially with grandchildren, have much bigger decisions to make. Iβm sure we all have our fingers crossed for much better days ahead.

It’s a struggle to stay remotely positive that is for sure. So glad your reno is done and you’re enjoying it. As to your celebration, I’m picturing the garage doors going up as the visiting car goes in, door coming down before anyone exits. I read too many mysteries. π Have a nice week with your loved ones.

I think you’re right, Judy, winter started early this year.
The photo of your neighbor reminded me of when I used to have to shovel out the back of my truck.
I hope the snow sticks around so that we can enjoy a white Christmas. I hope you have a healthy, safe holiday season.

I have a cover on the back but have to brush off the cover. He had to shovel away to get that cleared. π They say we’re getting rain on Christmas day. Really? Rain? I like the snow better than rain, but I’m definitely not in charge. π Have a great week, Dan.

I love your lamp decorations, Judy, and your snow photos make me nostalgic for snow, although Iβm not minding it being warm enough by afternoon to sit on our new patio furniture. But we have whiplash weather here, mid-thirties on the morning, mid-sixties by afternoon, so you have to have layers on, off, and then on again. Leave for shopping early and a few hours later youβre leaving that jacket in the car.
Iβd never heard of space savers, although I understand the allure of the idea. But I can also well imagine the sticky situations that could arise from it.
Thanks for sharing the beauty and I hope you enjoy your Christmas week!

The space savers are hilarious from an hour and a half away. They put tables, chairs, ironing boards, everything you can think of to save their shoveled out space. Glad to share the winter scenes with you as you enjoy your tea on the patio. π Happy Christmas week to you too!

Your Welcome wreath is beautiful. Seeing a frozen waterfall is an eye opener for sure.
The photo of your neighbor’s perfectly formed pine tree Is an absolute Hallmark card moment. What a magnificent oil painting that would be!
And you know I just love that last image. I’m always amazed at the cleverness of these kinds of images, but the people who think them up amaze me more.
Wishing you and Dennis a happy, worry free holiday . Hold on to the thought that there are better days ahead!!

It was a cold 22 degrees when I headed downtown to check out the waterfall, and I certainly didn’t warm up looking at it. However, it always amazes me to check it out. That tree is beautiful. The only sad part is there were actually three in a group there, and he’s lost the other two. Yes – I loved that 2021 image with the vaccine, and may we all be offered an opportunity to participate. Happy Holidays, friend.

Lovely photos! December is one time when I do miss the New England of my childhood and youth, and the beauty of the snow. Honestly, though, as soon as New Year’s Eve is over, I’m delighted to be in the South where daffodils peek through in January, and pansies bloom all winter and through the spring. I’m looking forward to trying to see the “Great Conjunction” tonight, anyone else? I hope our skies clear enough for it to be visible. Vanderbilt’s observatory is hosting a livestream that starts at 6 pm EST, so I may have to make do with that.

You just described why I would normally be heading to SC this week – daffodils and pansies. π Good luck with your viewing, and it’s great that Vanderbilt will be online just in case. Happy Holidays, and post some early spring shots so I can ooh and aah. π

Love your photos, Judy. Snow can be so beautiful when you don’t have to shovel or drive through it. I would like a couple of inches for Christmas, but I fear we will have a snowless holiday this year. It’s been very dry here. I only hope that doesn’t mean we will get dumped on in March and April. Have a happy holiday week!

The pictures are beautiful! Snow makes it all so pretty. We didn’t have much (I think it was under 6″ for the entire winter) and the alternative is shades of gray.

I can take the snow, I love the sun, but the gray gets to me after a while. I had a couple of friends who took medication for Seasonal Affective Disorder, and I never understood it. After about five days of gray, I get it. π Have a nice last holiday in your current home and onward to the new one. π

I usually bemoan the short term life of an ice sculpture, but with this early of a start, I think those trees and reindeer are going to be here awhile!
Your wreath on the lamp looks like a Christmas card!
My sister lived in downtown Boston for years, and I was a frequent visitor. Lots of excitement there, but the constant stress over fighting for space made my return home to wide open green lawns and drive up three stall garages a welcome experience! She once commented on a discarded boyfriend, βI pay more to park my car than he earns in a year!β

I love ice sculptures, and when I worked as HR at the Culinary Academy here, the chefs would have a competition. It was amazing. I must admit, I did enjoy a hearty laugh at your sister’s expense, sorry. π Yes, when we were actually leaving home, I’d always come back to our little town and think I sure am glad I don’t live in a big city anymore. Three garages is a gift from the DIY god so enjoy each one. π Have a wonderful Christmas, Joyce, and I hope Santa bring a bag full to each of your three houses.

Great photos Judy, snow on trees and across landscapes looks so pretty, and yet to live in it must be such a challenge, especially at this time of the year. I had a laugh at the space savers in Boston, desperate times call for desperate measures!
Best wishes for a happy, warm and safe Christmas, and may 2021 bring some changes in these crazy times.

I hated to chuckle at the space savers, but when you see lawn ornaments and ironing boards set out there, it just makes you smile and then appreciate that you don’t have to do it. π Happy holidays to you and, yes, may 2021 be a little more calming and provide some normalcy for all.

There was a murder in Boston yesterday and Garry said it was probably over a parking spot in the South End. This is a terrible time of year to be city-bound! I just want it to go away. I love snow — for about 3 days. After that, I’m finished with it. Sadly, it isn’t always finished with ME π

I cannot even imagine having to cope with on-street parking although growing up that was how I did it. Youth! That’s true – snow comes and goes at it’s own pace, and when it gets black and ugly, it’s really bad news. Stay well!

Beautiful pictures. That tree on top of the pizzeria cracks me up. When I lived in Washington, DC, I used to watch similar games being played with parking spaces during the winter storms. A neighbor of ours always parked in the same space for weeks. I finally asked him how he managed to keep it: “I never drive, I just call a cab this time of year.” π Merry Christmas! – Marty
