On Thursday, June 15, my long-time blogging friend, Laurie from Notes from the Hinterland is heading south from Maine so we can meet up in person at Bedrock Gardens. We’ll tour the gardens at 10:30 a.m., share a simple lunch afterwards, and have a good old fashioned in-person conversation.
If you live in the general area and would like to join us, just let me know in the comments, and I’ll get back to you in email. The more the merrier.
Bedrock has an interesting history in that it started out as the personal garden of Jill Nooney and Bob Munger. Bob did a lot of the landscape work, and the sculptures were created by Jill. It is now a 30+ acre public garden run by The Friends of Bedrock Garden.
The entrance fee is $15 per person, but Bedrock is not charging us for the tour because we’re bloggers, and we blog, which is good for business. 🙂
Who will be the tour guide? John Forti. Many of you in this area will know John because he is currently Bedrock Garden’s Executive Director. His resume also includes being the Director of Horticulture for the Massachusetts Horticultural Society, the Curator/Director of Historic Landscapes at Strawbery Banke Museum in Portsmouth, the Director of Horticulture at Plimoth Plantation Museum, author, and his resume goes on and on.
There is plenty of parking and restrooms are available. Garden tours go on if there are sprinkles. A full blown downpour will result in our going to lunch at a local restaurant.

I hope you are having a good week and that your weather is as wonderful as ours – sunny and in the 60-70°F range every day. 😎
June 15th will be a totally fun day for you and your friend Laurie, and any others who are lucky enough to be able to join you! My fingers are crossed that the weather is completely cooperative !
Your photos are beautiful, but the last one is stunning. I’m sure you will take lots of photos to share with us. I can’t wait to see them.
That’s a lot of ground to cover my friend, hope you have a reliable pair of walking shoes that’s up to the task! 🤗

Your last picture looks like stepping into heaven! Beautiful and exciting place to meet a blogger friend with similar interest! I respect the level of commitment it takes to preserve history for people who appreciate art and skillful gardening!

I wish you lived closer. 🙂 I have been there several times including when it will still ‘just’ a private residence that they allowed people to walk through. It has really grown into a destination garden in this area.

Our weather is the same as yours this week. I am so thrilled to see color again and not wear seventeen gazillion layers of clothing when I step outside. I know you’ll have a great time with your blogging friend. You’ll report back, right?

Yes, one layer is a good thing and it means less wash. 🙂 Yes, I’ll report back. Enjoy that new deck, and I hope you have a good book and a cold one to accompany you.

Judy, that sounds like a fun day with a blogging friend. I would come, but it’s a bit of a trip for me, plus I’ll be in Ohio that week.
We have a similar garden in Wisconsin – West of the Lake Gardens in Manitowoc. Not as big as Bedrock, but it started out as Ruth and John Dunham’s private home on the shore of Lake Michigan. Ruth was an avid gardener, initially opening the garden and her tulips to the public and continuing on with variations over the years. When they both passed away, the estate and gardeners continued to plant flowers around the six-acre property. If you are interested in seeing it, there’s more info and photos on their website.

I will join you in spirit! It sounds as though it’s going to be one of those days we wish would come more often. Kindred spirits are hard to come by, and it seems to me that our little corner of the blog world brings some of those together. It’s a real joy. I’ll be hoping for perfect weather for you and Laurie.
